When an element composed of atoms that readily eliminate electrons (a steel) reacts with an element made up of atoms that quickly achieve electrons (a nonmetal), a transfer of electrons generally takes place, generating ions. The compound formed by this transfer is stabilized because of the electrostatic points of interest (ionic bonds) between the
